Dear Warwick Families,

We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. Social-emotional learning skills matter for student achievement and greater life outcomes. We heard from many of you through our family surveys that social-emotional learning, mental health, and school safety were some of your greatest concerns. Warwick Public School’s Vision of a Graduate is our guiding compass for academic and social-emotional mindsets to be college and career-ready.

In grades 3-12, we are asking your child to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey. In kindergarten through second grade, teachers will complete a very brief perception survey for their students. The survey will be completed two times this school year, November 6 - 21st and February 26 - March 8th. It takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.

The survey topics were thoughtfully selected based on the identified priority areas in our District Strategic Plan. Below are the four topics and a brief description. The survey questions were developed through the same company, Panorama, which does Survey Works for the RI Department of Education (RIDE).

Social Awareness - How well students consider the perspectives of others and empathize with them.
Learning Strategies - How well students deliberately use strategies to manage their own learning processes generally.
Emotion Regulation - How well students regulate their emotions.
Supportive Relationships - How supported students feel through their relationships with friends and adults at school (questions pertaining to family life have been omitted)

*All of this information is public and can be found here if you would like to take a deeper look. Remember, not all of the survey topics are going to be covered. We are only asking questions about the four areas that are outlined above.

We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they can skip the item altogether.

If you do not want your child(ren) to take this survey, please visit the Aspen family portal and follow the instructions here. If you do not opt-out, your child will be included in the survey.
